Punjab Kings delivered one of their most complete performances of the IPL 2026 season as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets in a high-scoring encounter. Chasing a daunting target of 197, PBKS made the chase look effortless thanks to a sensational unbeaten century from captain Shreyas Iyer.

The right-handed batter played a captain’s knock under pressure, finishing with 101* off just 51 deliveries and guiding Punjab Kings home with two overs to spare. His innings, packed with elegant strokeplay and fearless aggression, completely shifted the momentum in PBKS’ favour.

LSG Post Competitive 196 Despite Early Setbacks

After being asked to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants posted a solid total of 196/6 in 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Josh Inglis, who produced an attacking 72 off 44 balls, smashing nine boundaries and two sixes.

LSG, however, suffered an early setback when Arshin Kulkarni departed for a duck. Nicholas Pooran also failed to make an impact, managing only two runs before falling to Marco Jansen.

Ayush Badoni injected momentum into the innings with a blistering cameo of 43 from just 18 deliveries. His aggressive approach in the middle overs kept the scoring rate high and ensured Punjab’s bowlers remained under pressure.

Captain Rishabh Pant contributed 26 runs, while Abdul Samad added valuable finishing touches with an unbeaten 37 off 20 balls, including three sixes late in the innings.

Despite the strong batting display, Punjab Kings managed to control the damage during the death overs. Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal were the standout performers with the ball, both picking up two wickets each.

Shreyas Iyer Steals the Show in the Chase

Punjab Kings began their chase in disastrous fashion when Priyansh Arya was dismissed for a duck in the opening over by Mohammed Shami. However, Prabhsimran Singh quickly counterattacked with a fluent 69 off 39 balls. His fearless batting ensured PBKS stayed ahead of the required rate during the powerplay. Cooper Connolly added a quickfire 18 off 10 before falling to Shami, but the real turning point came when Shreyas Iyer took complete control of the innings.

The PBKS skipper mixed timing with power brilliantly, punishing loose deliveries all around the ground. He smashed 11 fours and five sixes during his unbeaten 101-run knock and never allowed LSG bowlers to settle. Alongside him, Suryansh Shedge played a supporting role with an unbeaten nine runs as Punjab Kings completed the chase at 200/3 in just 18 overs.

Shreyas Iyer’s Century Defines the Match

Shreyas Iyer’s innings was a perfect example of controlled aggression. He absorbed pressure early before accelerating dramatically in the second half of the innings. His ability to dominate both pace and spin made the difference on a batting-friendly surface. Every time Lucknow attempted to regain momentum, Iyer responded with boundaries that silenced the opposition. The century not only secured two important points for Punjab Kings but also strengthened their playoff ambitions in IPL 2026.

Bowlers Struggle in High-Scoring Contest

Lucknow Super Giants struggled to contain Punjab’s aggressive batting lineup. Mohammed Shami picked up two wickets, but the rest of the bowling unit failed to apply pressure consistently. Arjun Tendulkar managed one wicket, dismissing Prabhsimran Singh, while the remaining bowlers leaked runs at crucial moments.
