From Tragedy to Gold: Sake Babu’s Inspiring Journey

Sake Babu: In films, heroes overcome hardships and achieve success. But in real life, it is very rare to find people who fight the same battles and emerge victorious. In the movie Peddi, played by Ram Charan, the hero fights for his village and creates history. In the same way, a young man from Kandukur village in Anantapur district overcame an accident that pushed his life into darkness and created history by winning a gold medal for the country. This is not just the story of an athlete; it is the story of a warrior who lost a leg but never lost his dreams.

In the movie Peddi, the hero has one goal: to bring recognition to his village. For that, he faces many insults, obstacles, and struggles. Similarly, Sake Babu, a young man from Kandukur village in Anantapur district, also had a goal. He wanted to repay the sacrifices of his parents and support his family by securing a good job. With that objective, he worked hard from childhood.

His parents worked as daily wage laborers, and poverty became the permanent address of their household. However, when it came to their son’s future, they never compromised. Watching their struggles while growing up, Babu decided that he had to achieve something meaningful in life.

After clearing many examinations, putting in tremendous effort, and enduring years of waiting, he secured a job in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). That day was a celebration for the entire family. He was happily serving in his job, but perhaps fate became jealous of that happiness. While traveling from Delhi to his hometown on leave, he met with a train accident. In that accident, Babu lost his left leg. In a single moment, his entire life changed. The job he had earned through years of hard work slipped away before his eyes.

After losing his leg, CISF authorities declared Babu unfit for service. Years of hard work came to an abrupt end because of the accident. On one side were health problems, and on the other were financial difficulties and family responsibilities. His entire life became a question mark.

In Peddi, hero Ram Charan does not give up. He falls, but he rises again. Sake Babu did the same. He never gave up hope. Instead, he turned his physical disability into his greatest strength and entered the world of para-athletics.

Since childhood, Babu had a deep love for sports. He first played cricket, then showcased his talent in kho-kho, and later chose shot put in para-athletics. It was there that he truly proved his talent.

Every day he trained for hours. Despite pain and exhaustion, he remained focused on a single goal—to win a medal for the country.

District-level competitions, state-level competitions, national-level competitions—wherever he competed, Sake Babu left his mark. He won numerous medals, created several records, and brought recognition to Anantapur district.

Recently, at an international para-athletics competition, Sake Babu competed in the shot put event and delivered an outstanding performance. Facing tough competition, he won the gold medal. He said that the moment he stood with the Indian flag draped over his shoulders was the greatest recognition of his life’s struggle.

In Peddi, Ram Charan succeeds in cricket, wrestling, and para-athletics. Similarly, Sake Babu played cricket, excelled in kho-kho, and later won medals in para-athletics. That is why, he says, when he watches Peddi, it reminds him of his own story.

Even after winning a gold medal at the international level, Sake Babu’s life continues in a simple manner. He currently runs a small photocopy center to support his family. Balancing his livelihood on one side and sports training on the other, he continues moving forward.

“I would like to meet Ram Charan once. I want to tell him my story. I want to thank him for recognizing and portraying the lives of people like us through films,” he said emotionally.

After losing all hope because of a tragic accident, Babu refused to lose his self-confidence. He kept moving forward and eventually became a source of pride for the nation.
