India Announce 10-Member Squad for 2026 BWF World Championships Led by PV Sindhu

India have named a strong 10-member contingent for the 2026 BWF World Championships, scheduled to be held from August 17 to 23, with former world champion PV Sindhu set to lead the nation’s challenge.

The prestigious tournament will see India represented across all five disciplines, with the country securing direct qualification spots in every category. The squad combines experienced campaigners with promising young talents as India looks to add to its growing legacy on badminton’s biggest stage. PV Sindhu

In men’s singles, Lakshya Sen and rising star Ayush Shetty earned direct qualification through their world rankings. The women’s singles draw will feature Sindhu alongside emerging youngster Unnati Hooda, who continues to impress with her rapid progress on the international circuit.

India’s strongest medal hopes could once again rest on the shoulders of men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. The world-class duo secured qualification in fourth position overall and will enter the championships among the leading contenders for a podium finish.

Joining them in men’s doubles are Hariharan Amsakarunan and M. R. Arjun, who claimed India’s second qualification berth in the discipline.

In women’s doubles, the experienced partnership of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand qualified in 30th position and will spearhead India’s campaign. They will be accompanied by the duo of Kavipriya Selvam and Simran Singhi.

The mixed doubles category will feature Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto, who secured qualification in 21st place, while Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde earned India’s second spot in the event.

Several Indian players also remain on the reserve list, including former World Championship medallists Kidambi Srikanth and H. S. Prannoy in men’s singles. In women’s singles, Tanvi Sharma, Anmol Kharb, Malvika Bansod and Tasnim Mir are among those awaiting possible entry.

Meanwhile, the BWF has confirmed that defending champions across all five categories have officially entered the tournament, setting the stage for another highly competitive edition of the World Championships.

With a blend of proven stars and exciting young prospects, India will be aiming for a strong medal haul when the world’s best badminton players gather in August.
